August 2003

Dianne and I had an idea of tattooing something on ourselves to commemorate our marriage anniversary. We thought stars would be cool symbol.

My plan was to have our tattoos done on our anniversary. I visited a few local Pasadena shops to try and set it up, but I couldn't get anyone interested.

Run your mouse over the picture above to get a closer look at Incognito Tattoo's location on Colorado Blvd.

We had driven by Incognito Tattoo many, many times but never stopped in. When I explained my anniversary idea, the guys there were really cool, and seemed enthusiastic -- even offering some suggestions.

John MacIntyre did the stars for us, and we really enjoyed the experience. John is a laid back artist, but very dedicated. He did those simple star tattoos with great care and pride.

John had drawn some incredible looking hibiscus flowers, and Dianne felt I needed a bit of 'nature' to balance out the pop art tattoos that make up most of my collection.

On my birthday, John designed and inked in the black lines for the hibiscus flowers. A good, two hour session, and even in black and white, the detail really comes through.

3 weeks later, John gets to work again [below]

and after a good another two and a half hours...

we have color.
Flash forward to February 2005 -- [below] new line work

May 2005 [below]

more color added to the elbow area -- this whole session hurt like hell.

John McIntyre has since left Incognito Tattoo,
